Numbers seem about the same, but me personally being in the woods it really looked as if the deer population was down.

I think everyone had the same impression as you, but I still stand by my assessment from the season - the weather fooled us all. The kills were just more spread over the course of the season, as opposed to loaded on the front end. Bow kills were up 6.7%.
