Title: Toyotas lesson: Software can be unsafe at any speed...!
vieli - February 7, 2010 02:21 PM (GMT)
Hello!
Software glitches may be behind sudden acceleration and braking failures in Toyota vehicles. It's ironic that Toyota, the leader in building quality automobiles, may have become the poster child for poor software quality. It probably won't be the last auto manufacturer to suffer this fate...!

Kinda funny how all this technology is 'supposed' to improve our lives are causeing more headaches than the old stuff we had. I think the touted gas pedal shim fix is BS as well. If it were so damn easy, why didnt they do it asap as the problem was discovered? What logic is that? "Lets NOT put a 1/3 cent piece of metal in to prevent wear, and tarnish our 50+ year reputation.. " Detroit, maybe, but not from Japan..

Did you see the article today picking part the angle of the CEO of Toyota's bow? :D

If the gas pedal gets stuck, put the car into neutral. Depending on how high the RPMs are, most likey you will put the rod though the head. But id rather blow a engine then hit a person.

Neutral and then shut the car off.
Luckily my new truck was not part of the recall.
Papo - February 11, 2010 02:24 PM (GMT)
once you shut off the car you cant steer and if you are in high speeds not the smartest thing to do, down shift, get the car to slow down and close to stop and neutral. Blow the engine, it the car over me and the family.
Then sue Toyota!

You can steer, it's just very, very difficult.
But yes, that is fine as well!
ARCHERY N GUNS - February 11, 2010 08:59 PM (GMT)
ya you lose power steering and power breaks. yes down shifting will slow you down faster.....
Airborneguy - February 13, 2010 02:09 AM (GMT)
Put the car in neutral and use the E-brake. Definitely don't shut it off. And putting the car in neutral won't blow anything, all you are doing is taking it out of gear.
Papo - February 13, 2010 03:29 AM (GMT)
If you throw it in Neutral the rpms will continue to bounce off the rev limiter if the accelatrator is stuck. Might cause internal damage might not depending on the settings.

Check out Jr's video on Facebook to see what he does. It involves the E-brake and turning the wheel as hard as he can to one side.

NO E BRAKE GUY, JUST THE GAS!
and yes if the engine is accelerating and you put the car in neutral it can blow the motor. You are discounting the engine from the drive train....BUT the engine is still going. The gas pedal is still stuck. It all depends on how high the rmps are but it can blow. And DO NOT pull the E brake, that locks up the rear end....its like not having ABS in the rain or snow you can fish tail.
Just pop it in neutral, use the brakes...slow it down normal and then turn off the car.

ya Jose is right....todays cars have a rev limiter it will just bounce...may not red line and blow
Airborneguy - February 17, 2010 03:54 AM (GMT)
Now, for real fun, you can take your shirt off, hold it behind you like a parachute, and jump out the sunroof like an ejector seat, leaving the car to smash into the nearest school, or church, completely uncontrolled and at top speed!
YukonJack - February 17, 2010 05:09 AM (GMT)
Army Airborne would suggest a stunt like that!
