Very heavy draw and LOUD! Wall is very small and will rip your shoulder out if you let off just a bit. Not a recommended hunting bow imo. As these new bows get faster they get louder and less forgiving. I'd rather have a slightly slower, quiet, forgiving bow at aroud 300 than this bow at 360. JMO.
5" Brace height?! Bad idea.
Unless you're Randy Ulmer, you need a quicker release than that. Too much time on the string. Not to mention the fact that you'll never get that bow above 340 fps, unless you're shooting a 250Gr. arrow. They always 'stretch' their speeds.
And so we all know, the roller guard matthews uses increases speed, but at the cost of holding draw weight. It does not actually increase the Draw weight, nor does it decrease the letoff %. However, after the 80% letoff, the roller guard then secretly adds a few #'s to your full draw holding weight, thus the increase in speed. It does this by effectively shortening your cables. You can do this with any bow by twisting the cables tighter. In either case, it puts more tension into the limbs, upping the speed and the holding weight.
New Field & Stream has a test on the Mathews Monster XLR8 & the PSE X-Force Omen.
The article isnt online yet, but some snippets....
"Both are beasts to draw. Loud but you can quiet them some but will still be noisier than slower, other bows..Radically SHORT, non forgiving brace heights.."
Both feature split limbs, preloadedpast parallel limbs, string back stops & dual cams.
Both were setup shooting 28" draws, 388 grain arrows, buiscuits, off a d loop on the string..
XLR8- advertized 360+ fps, measured avgs. 321 fps. Louder of 2 bows. "Clunky" grip
"With an even cam turnover, the Monster XLR8 draws smoothly and is easy to hold on target"
Omen- Adv 366 fps, measured avg. 319 fps. Cam crest/turnover is rough, may need a capture rest. Don't let up, even at full draw. Slim grip. quieter bow.
" Whats really surprising about the X force Omen is how quiet it is for all this speed"
