Where do you all go for bow purchases / tech work? Fire away!

A6A6 - April 20, 2009 06:57 AM (GMT)

D-F brothere in brooklyn are crooks and dont have a clue

ive been to proline in queens , they seem to be the best place around.
knowledgeable staff, reasonable pricing work done on spot.
ide try them.

Xtremehunter - April 20, 2009 12:10 PM (GMT)
For in there ProLine is the best.

For Suffolk I go to The Archery Forum if it is ou of my hands.

ARCHERY N GUNS - April 20, 2009 03:17 PM (GMT)
The Sportsman center down south Jersey. Rob you saw it 1st hand yesterday. Sonny and Anthony both been there
with me. I find that place to be one of the best. They know there shit, its close to home, they have a nice range
Up stairs that also includes a video screen. I also like his they work on your bow in front of
You. You can see what he's doing, ask questions and learn.

YukonJack - April 20, 2009 05:14 PM (GMT)
Great responses everyone. I may have to check out Proline soon. I liked the gentleman I spoke to on the phone there this weekend.

I went to Sportsmans Center in Bordentown, NJ on Sunday. Had a nice 3 hour visit, chatting with Tim. He wasn't busy at all, so we BS'd for that time, and after shooting a number of top bows and bow makers, I became the proud owner of a Hoyt AlphaMax 32.

I was torn between the 32 and the 35, but felt less residual vibration in the 32, and didn't feel much benefit to the 35. I LOVE the way they both shoot.

I highly recommend going there for anything you need. I do most of my bow work myself (mostly because I'm OCD about it), but wouldn't hesitate to go to Tim. Just a tip - call and ask when they usually aren't busy, so you'll get some 1 on 1 time, as opposed to feeling rushed and leaving unhappy. I lucked out that it was a beautiful day, so no one wnted to be inside.

That capped off a great weekend of archery for me. Saturday I spent at the range (with my old bow) and shot groups of 2.5" at 70 yards, and 6" at 80 yards. Best groups I've ever shot!

Shoot Straight!

Xtremehunter - April 20, 2009 07:48 PM (GMT)
That is some great shooting Rob. Good luck with the Alpha.... but don;t forget to keep practicing with the stick, we have a mission.

Airborneguy - April 20, 2009 08:42 PM (GMT)
I like Downunder Sports on Staten Island, but he can be expensive. I gotta say Sportsman's Center is a great place.

slam - April 20, 2009 11:06 PM (GMT)
I go to the Archery forum also and Smtih Point Archery. Both are very good but both places have brands that the other dosent.

AVAV681 - April 21, 2009 12:15 AM (GMT)
Hey Rob, Good luck with your new bow. I'm also in the market for a new bow. I shoot a Hoyt now and have no problems with it but I think its time for something new. The Alpha Max is one of my choice's but Mathews came out with like 3 new models, Reezen, Monster, and the Hyperlite. So now I'm really confused..I guess I have to just shoot em all and see whats best. Any input would be helpfull.

Air... I too like Downunder Sports, the owner Mike is a gentleman to do business with, he did some work on my Hoyt last year and was having some problems with it, he stoped everything he was doing three days before bow season to fix my problem. Yes hes expensive but worth it.

Xtremehunter - April 21, 2009 02:08 AM (GMT)
I also use Smithpoint Archery Slam. Problem is I been shooting Bowtech and they don't carry it. matter of fact they have nothing good to say about it. Which amazes me that an archery shop has nothing good to say about the number one growing and selling bow company. But the competition keeps all in check.

bigguy24 - April 21, 2009 02:28 AM (GMT)
I purchase most of my gear online. I know of a site where you wouldn't believe the prices.....dirt cheap literally. As far as bows & arrows go, I purchase them online and have em setup up/tuned locally.

bowhunter97 - April 21, 2009 02:32 AM (GMT)
Yeah I but alot of my stuff on line as well. But also deal with a great guy out on LI, you guys might know him, his name is Hugh lol.

Lol. I've never met Hugh, or any of you guys for that matter; would def like to change that soon. Seems like a great group of guys we got here, very generous going out of their way for the sport (Hugh offering that free hunt next year). I won't post or PM the site I use, but ironically I am looking for a reliable, reasonably priced local source. Hugh, your prob the answer. I'll send a PM to you in the future with more specific questions.

Do you sell Bowtech? Do you setup and tune? And the million dollar question...recommend Bowtech or Matthews?

YukonJack - April 21, 2009 02:47 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the well wishes everyone. I'm in the process of setting up the new bow. Hugh, check your email.

As for the stickbow, I was shooting that bow a ton on Saturday as well. Getting there! Not quite to 80 yards yet tho!

Mike at Outdoor Adventures (Name recently changed from 'Down Under') is a great guy. I would have gone to him, but they don't deal in Hoyt (yet). Last I spoke to him, he is moving to get them in.

A6, definitely shoot them all. I have my reservations about Matthews, but that doesn't mean they're bad. Definitely put the AlphaMax on your list to shoot.

A6A6 - April 21, 2009 04:38 AM (GMT)
hey rob..
if you shooting 2.5 at 70 yards consistently your doing better than I prob ever will
i wouldn't get rid of that bow just yet.. sounds like your very in tune with it..

good luck with the new one....
ive heard lots of good things about it

YukonJack - April 21, 2009 12:23 PM (GMT)
I'm certainly not getting rid of it. I just wanted a backup, and the time was right. I'll continue to shoot my "old" bow for the near future. I want to have both setup and ready to go.

ARCHERY N GUNS - April 21, 2009 01:01 PM (GMT)
I don't like down under. He has a bunch of kids in there they don't know anything.
I went there for wraps....the 2 kids in there had no clue what a wrap was. They said
Come back tomorrow when my boss is here. Another time went in for my NY. They didn't
Seem like they new how to do that either.

YukonJack - April 21, 2009 01:17 PM (GMT)
There are also a couple of older gentlemen in there who know their stuff. But Mike does seem to be the most knowledgeable.

Hey - Have we ever reached out to Mike to put fliers or business card into his store for NEO? It would be a great place for exposure.

Xtremehunter - April 21, 2009 02:58 PM (GMT)
Bigguy, thanks for the inquiries and I would be glad to help you in anyway. when you PM me I will send along my #.

As for the Bowtech and mathews question. My answer is I wish I could. Both the Bowtech and mathews are dealer protected. The dealership I use to get my Bowtechs currently is The Archery Forum in Middle Island. I have nothing bad to say about this shop. The owner and employee, Chuck and Dan are great guys and know the bow business in and out. So if you are looking for either of those bows and are in traveling distance to their shop I suggest you visit them.

for Hoyt you have Smithpoint in Patchogue. I bought many PSE's from jeff at Smithpoint and was never unhappy. Again great guys to get to know and to deal with. They deal with Martin, PSE and Hoyt. Jeff's son Jared is a pro shooter and instructor for PSE. He is also a great bow mechanic. Dave is also a pro shooter and instructor. He is a Martin shooter, also a great bow mechanic. The range at Smithpiont can not be topped for an indoor range. They had video shooting years ago before it was popular. we had a lot of fun at that thing.\

So no matter what bow you're after you have two great places to buy them and shoot them.

email me for a list of things I offer in the archery, shooting and hunting sports.

AVAV681 - April 21, 2009 11:36 PM (GMT)
Rob, I'm going to see Mike one day this week.. I'll ask him if you want.

YukonJack - April 22, 2009 01:45 AM (GMT)
That'd be great. Make sure he knows a bunch of his customers use it. Invite him to visit.

I'm going to see if I can get a bunch of business card printed up. We can distribute them from there. Ok by you Sonny?

Airborneguy - April 22, 2009 02:04 AM (GMT)
If he agrees, I have the little postcard flyer already on my computer. I just need to get it printed out.

AVAV681 - April 24, 2009 01:50 AM (GMT)
No problem guys, I will defitnetly take care of that for you.. I have to call him tomorrow to set up an appt for me to come in and check out the new mathews stuff, so I will talk to him about NEO as well.

Regards,
Alex
